about cake hoopla
now this is a story all about how…
At Cake Hoopla, we believe that cake decorating should be joyful, memorable, and accessible to everyone—without the mess, stress, or cleanup.
Co-founder JoJo first discovered her love for baking in 2009, making cakes and cupcakes for friends and family to celebrate birthdays, weddings, graduations, and baby showers. Years later, when her young son donned a tiny apron and joined her in the kitchen, those sweet shared moments sparked a bigger idea: what if families, friends, and even coworkers could experience the magic of decorating cakes together—without needing a stocked kitchen or professional skills?
After a decade practicing law, JoJo teamed up with her longtime friend and business school colleague Katie in 2022 to bring that vision to life. The result? Cake Hoopla—a cake-decorating studio where creativity, celebration, and hands-on fun come together.
In September 2023, Cake Hoopla opened its first location in Tigard, Oregon, just outside of Portland. The bright, welcoming space features a private party room and an open studio where kids, teens, and adults can decorate cakes or cupcakes in small groups, birthday parties, team-building events, field trips, or just-for-fun outings.
Our Mission
Cake Hoopla’s mission is simple:
To make cake decorating fun, stress-free, and accessible to everyone.
We do the hard part—baking the cakes, preparing the supplies, and setting the stage—so you can focus on the fun of decorating. Whether you're a total beginner or a piping pro, our kits and in-studio experiences are designed to inspire creativity and connection.
Fun That’s Easy on the Planet
We’re also committed to reducing waste and protecting the planet. That’s why we use biodegradable and compostable materials wherever possible in our decorating kits and studio supplies.
Cake Hoopla is proud to be the Portland area’s first DIY cake-decorating studio, offering everything from themed birthday parties and custom cakes to take-home kits, corporate events, and seasonal workshops and classes.
Let’s get this party started—one cake at a time.
